Key tips
- Gomyo can be found south of the Black Dye merchant fast travel point, in the bamboo forest.
Overview
A standalone Tale of Tsushima in the Toyotama region, told by the people living under the occupation rather than by anyone commanding it.
A Debt Repaid is a standalone Tale of Tsushima in Toyotama — not attached to an ally questline, and told from inside the occupation rather than above it.
The side tales are where the game shows what the invasion costs people who were never going to be defended by eighty samurai on a beach. They are short, and collectively they are most of the game’s texture.
In the game’s own framing: Bandits have been active here, and one of them has a grievance against the others that Jin can use.

Full walkthroughSpoilers
- 01Accept the job
Gomyo tells his story and Jin agrees to help.
- 02Follow Gomyo
Toward the bandit camp.
- 03Survey the camp
From a high ledge — four locations to mark. Survey points are not decoration — each one you mark puts an objective or a hazard on your map, and skipping them means finding the same things the hard way.
- 04The first attack
Gomyo charges the first two scouting camps without any interest in stealth. Follow him in and deal with the unarmoured bandits.
- 05Scout and plan
Survey what is left. Sections are separated enough that one can stay unaware while you clear another. Survey points are not decoration — each one you mark puts an objective or a hazard on your map, and skipping them means finding the same things the hard way.
- 06Clear the main area
Stealth or open fighting.
- 07Search the house
The marked building holds the leader, Gorohachi.
- 08The last fight
Gorohachi and reinforcements come down from the hills.
- 09Hear Gomyo’s last request
He is badly hurt by the end of it.
Enemies in this tale, and how to fight them
Strengths
- Straw Hats / ronin — Japanese swordsmen rather than Mongols, and they fight like it — faster and more technical than the invaders, with less armour. Stone Stance still applies. Standoffs work well against them, and against unarmoured ronin a won standoff often kills outright.
Rewards
- Minor Legend IncreaseA smaller step toward the next Legend rank — the size a side tale, a liberated settlement or a cleared encounter gives.
- Minor Utility CharmA silver charm. Minor charms are weaker than major ones and go in the minor slots — you start with two major slots and unlock up to four minor ones by honouring Inari Shrines, for six equipped at once.
- +14 LinenUpgrade material. Silk, linen and leather are what armourers and swordsmiths charge to improve your gear.
