Key takeaways
- Get this one early. Heavenly Strike is a guard-breaker that scales through the whole game. Taking it before the armoured Mongol units start appearing in numbers changes how the mid-game reads.
- The ballad is the map. Mythic Tales navigate by the musician's description rather than a marker — listen to what the verse says about the terrain, then look for it.
- It ends in a duel, not a camp. Bring Resolve and expect a one-on-one where parrying matters more than any consumable.
Overview
Every Mythic Tale starts as a song. A travelling musician tells you a story that is obviously exaggerated, and then the island turns out to contain the exaggeration.
The Heavenly Strike follows the legend of a duellist whose draw was so fast the cut landed before the sword appeared. Like all the Mythic Tales, it sends Jin across several locations following the ballad's details before ending in a confrontation that tests whether he has understood it.
The reward is the technique of the same name — a heavy, Resolve-fuelled strike that breaks a guard outright. It is one of the most consequential unlocks in the game because it gives the katana an answer to armoured opponents that does not depend on stance.
In the game’s own framing: A warrior demanded to hear the tale of Shigenori’s Heavenly Strike, then killed everyone who heard it with him — and went after the one woman who got away.
What to bring

Full walkthrough
- 01Find the musician in Komatsu
At the crossroads south of River Falls Bridge. He tells you about the warrior who wanted the tale.
- 02Search for the bridge
North, toward the sound of a woman weeping.
- 03Reach the search area
Where the weeping is audible.
- 04Find the weeping woman
She is hiding under the bridge.
- 05Speak with her
Drop to the riverbank. She names the killer: Yasuhira Koga.
- 06Investigate his path
Cross the river and find the horse tracks. Whistle the horse rather than walking back to it, and remember a charge is itself an opening move against a loose group.
- 07Follow the tracks
North, left at the fork, on through a logging camp where Mongols are building a roadblock.
- 08Reach the encounter area
The small Mongol camp.
- 09Defeat the Mongols
Eight of them, two of those archers. Deal with the archers first. Everything else in the fight is harder while arrows are landing, and archers fold quickly once you are on them — or take them at range before you commit.
- 10Speak with the villager
The marked man helped the Mongols from the watchtower.
- 11Search the watchtower
Two tables on the left hold a scroll and white leaves; a painting of a duelling ring is on the right wall.
- 12Speak with the woman
Ask her where white-leafed trees grow.
- 13Look for the white-leafed tree
South of Shigenori’s Peak, along the road.
- 14Follow them to the grove
The guiding wind runs you from tree to tree.
- 15Rescue the hostage
Mongols are interrogating a peasant at his house. Stealth works but is not needed.
- 16Speak with the hostage
Yasuhira has taken his grandfather to a duelling ring on the Komatsu coast.
- 17Travel to Shigenori’s Rest
Southwest, to the search area.
- 18Find Shigenori’s Rest
A rocky hill with a downed tree for a bridge; Jin says so when you have it.
- 19Enter
Across the tree and through the gap in the rocks.
- 20Defeat the Mongols
Use the tall grass. Deal with the brute near the entrance first. Switch to Moon Stance for the Brutes: they shrug off ordinary damage and Moon's heavy overheads are what actually stagger them. Their big swings are unblockable, so dodge rather than block and answer in the gap afterwards. Crouch into the grass and let the patrol pattern settle before you move; the grass breaks line of sight entirely rather than just slowing detection.
TipMoon staggers Brutes; nothing else in the melee kit reliably does.
- 21Investigate Shigenori’s Rest
Up the stairs to the duelling ring.
- 22Investigate the ring
Three things: the grandfather’s body, a bloody sword, and bloody footprints leading away.
- 23Defeat Yasuhira
Block often and sidestep the unblockables with the stick and dodge, countering when it is safe. When he sheathes the katana an unblockable is coming — sidestep and hit him before he recovers. The blade lock prompts the Heavenly Strike itself.
- 24Bury the man he killed
Return to the grandfather’s body. The tale ends with a burial rather than a reward screen.
Enemies in this tale, and how to fight them
Strengths
- Archers — Deal with them before you commit to the melee, because everything else in the fight becomes harder while arrows are landing. Take them with your own bow, drop them from stealth before the fight opens, or close the distance immediately — archers are poor at close range and fold quickly once you are on them. Where the tale gives you high ground, use it: an elevated position means only one side of the field can answer you.
- Brutes — Moon Stance. Brutes soak an enormous amount of ordinary damage, and Moon's heavy overhead strikes are what actually stagger them. Their big swings are usually unblockable — red marker — so dodge those rather than trying to block, and answer in the window afterwards rather than trading. Some carry explosives. If you have Resolve banked, a Brute is the right place to spend it.
Rewards
- Moderate Legend IncreaseBetween the two: the size a Mythic Tale awards.
- Heavenly Strike
- Sword KitA cosmetic kit for the katana — saya, tsuba and grip.
Trivia
- Mythic Tales are presented in a distinct visual style during the musician's telling, using a stylised sumi-e wash rather than the game's usual cutscene rendering.
- There are six Mythic Tales in the base game, splitting roughly between combat techniques and armour sets.
