Overview

A standalone Tale of Tsushima in the Iki Island region, told by the people living under the occupation rather than by anyone commanding it.

The Impact of Loss is a standalone Tale of Tsushima in Iki Island — not attached to an ally questline, and told from inside the occupation rather than above it.

The side tales are where the game shows what the invasion costs people who were never going to be defended by eighty samurai on a beach. They are short, and collectively they are most of the game’s texture.

In the game’s own framing: Crying near a lake, and a woman called Hotoke whose family the Mongols have taken. It ends in a choice with no good answer.

   Find the quest start

   The peasant on the shore.

   Find Hotoke

   Up the small slope to the right — blue dress and green skirt, kneeling by a small tent.

   Follow Hotoke

   She leads you to the battle site.

   Investigate the site

   The bodies, and a bag of rice on the muddy path.

   Examine the rice bag

   Which sets the next objective.

   Follow the rice

   A white trail along the muddy path, then footprints to the lakeshore.

   Defeat the Mongols

   At the shore.

   Scout the area

   Use the survey point and scan both ways to find both hostages. Survey points are not decoration — each one you mark puts an objective or a hazard on your map, and skipping them means finding the same things the hard way.

   Choose

   Hotoke’s husband on the right, or the monk on the left. Only one of them lives.

    Defend your choice

    Fight what is left while keeping them alive — the red icons are the threat.

Rewards

• Minor Legend Increase
  A smaller step toward the next Legend rank — the size a side tale, a liberated settlement or a cleared encounter gives.
• Minor Ranged Charm
  A silver charm. Minor charms are weaker than major ones and go in the minor slots — you start with two major slots and unlock up to four minor ones by honouring Inari Shrines, for six equipped at once.
• +10 Linen
  Upgrade material. Silk, linen and leather are what armourers and swordsmiths charge to improve your gear.
