Key takeaways
- Dance of Wrath is a panic button that scales. It converts a bad crowd fight into a chain of kills. Once you have it, encounters you would previously have thinned by stealth become viable head-on.
- It costs Resolve. Which means it competes with healing. Charms and armour that improve Resolve generation change how often you can rely on it.
- The tale is worth reading for the history. Yarikawa is referenced elsewhere in the game; this is where the reference is explained.
Overview
Yarikawa rose against Tsushima's rulers and was destroyed for it. That the island's own samurai did the destroying is the part the ballad does not soften.
This is the Mythic Tale most directly about the game's politics. The Yarikawa rebellion is history the samurai class would rather not discuss, and the legend of a vengeful spirit born from it is the version that survived among the people who lost.
The reward, Dance of Wrath, lets Jin chain kills through a group in a single flowing sequence. Mechanically it is the answer to being surrounded; narratively it is a technique named after a massacre, handed to a man who is becoming something the samurai will also want forgotten.
In the game’s own framing: Lord Yarikawa’s final curse, followed from a musician’s rumor to the thing at the end of it.

Full walkthrough
- 01Find the musician
Yamato, surrounded by people in Yarikawa.
- 02Search for white smoke
Northwest, near a bridge inside the search area.
- 03Collect the first offering
The scroll on the rock where the smoke rises.
- 04Find the burning Mongol camp
Southwest along the river.
- 05Investigate the camp
The horse, the shield bearer and the fallen soldier. Shield-bearers need Water Stance, and specifically its heavy attacks — light attacks chip uselessly at a raised shield. Whistle the horse rather than walking back to it, and remember a charge is itself an opening move against a loose group.
TipWater is the only efficient answer to a raised shield.
- 06Free the prisoner
Break the cage for a cutscene.
- 07Search for white smoke again
Back to the search area, then southwest.
- 08Collect the second offering
Another scroll at the source.
- 09Visit the refugee settlement
The survivors engage you automatically.
- 10Follow Heitaro
Southeast up a hill to a grave.
- 11Search for white smoke a third time
The centre of the search circle.
- 12Find the fighting
West, toward a house with battle damage.
- 13Investigate the exterior
Whatever it was has already gone.
- 14Enter through the back
Squeeze through the gap.
- 15Examine the interior
The banner, the offerings, the helmet rug and the scrolls.
- 16Search for white smoke a fourth time
The northern edge of the search circle.
- 17Collect the final scroll
The message is not encouraging.
- 18Travel to the Garden of the Gods
Southeast, to the grassy ground full of fireflies.
- 19Collect the last offering
Read the final scroll.
- 20Duel the Spirit of Yarikawa
Parry and counter rather than pressing. Heavenly Strike when you have the Resolve, and finish with Dance of Wrath. Keep at least one Resolve segment in reserve — it is your healing as well as your techniques, and spending the last one on damage is how a won fight turns. Blue-marked attacks can be parried; red-marked ones cannot and have to be dodged. Reading the colour matters more than reacting fast. Duels disable your tools, so this is stances, parries and dodges only. Let them commit first and take the recovery window rather than opening yourself.
Enemies in this tale, and how to fight them
Strengths
- Shield-bearers — Water Stance, and specifically its heavy attacks — that is what breaks a raised shield. Trying to chip through the front of a shield with light attacks wastes the fight. Stagger them first so the guard comes up and breaks, then go through the opening quickly before it closes.
Rewards
- Moderate Legend IncreaseBetween the two: the size a Mythic Tale awards.
- Dance of Wrath
- Sword KitA cosmetic kit for the katana — saya, tsuba and grip.
