Key takeaways
- This is where the longbow comes from. Not from Sensei Ishikawa's Tale, which is a common misconception. Uchitsune's bow is the armour-piercing one.
- Do it early. Armoured Mongol troops appear in numbers from Act 2 onward. Having a bow that headshots through helmets before then changes how the mid-game plays.
- Explosive Arrows come with it. The same tale unlocks the ability, turning the longbow into a crowd-clearing option as well as a precision one.
- Pair it with Tadayori's Armor. The other Izuhara Mythic Tale improves nocking speed and Concentration, which directly offsets the longbow's slow draw.
Overview
Uchitsune's bow is described as cursed. What it actually is, mechanically, is the single most useful ranged unlock in the game.
This is one of three Mythic Tales in the Izuhara region, alongside The Heavenly Strike and The Legend of Tadayori. It follows the legend of an archer whose extraordinary skill was said to come at a price, and the trail leads to Mount Hiyoshi.
The reward is the longbow itself plus the ability to fire Explosive Arrows from it. The longbow pierces Mongol armour — it can headshot helmeted warriors that the half bow cannot touch — at the cost of a much slower draw. For anyone playing at range, this tale is the single biggest capability jump available.
In the game’s own framing: A musician at Hiyoshi Springs tells of Uchitsune, whose cursed longbow is still hidden. The trail runs through three paintings — a tomb, an island and a mountain — and a monk who tells you to stop.

Full walkthrough
- 01Meet the musician
At Hiyoshi Springs. Sit and listen to the Legend of Uchitsune.
- 02Search the Hiyoshi coast for blue flowers
A large search zone; the blue hydrangeas are what you are looking for.
- 03Follow the flowers to the tomb
Near the centre of the zone they lead uphill to what looks like a stony hill and is actually a tomb.
- 04Investigate the tomb
Squeeze through the crack, crawl through and drop down. The cloth banner shows an island ringed with blue flowers — that is where you go next.
- 05Exit the tomb
Back to the wall you dropped from, through the hole into the tunnel, up and around, jump to the ledge and out through another crack.
- 06Meet the monk
Flaming arrows greet you outside. A robed monk warns you off the bow and vanishes.
- 07Search Hiyoshi for the island
Swipe to the painting for reference. The island is in the northern part of the search area.
- 08Follow the flowers to the island
The hydrangeas run down to the shore; swim across.
- 09Investigate the island cave
Another banner, this one showing a mountain.
- 10Search Hiyoshi for the mountain
Using the second painting.
- 11Follow the flowers up the mountain
They lead to a grotto ringed with tombs.
- 12Retrieve the longbow
It is on a pedestal at the centre of the grotto.
- 13Defeat the Tengu Demon
Taking it springs the trap. Parry rather than block or he will run long combos. When he draws the katana back into the scabbard, sidestep with a direction and dodge, then answer with a three-hit combo. Do not open — he strikes first. If he comes at range, double-tap dodge out of the four-slash bounding combo, and let him settle before you re-engage. It is an endurance fight. Blue-marked attacks can be parried; red-marked ones cannot and have to be dodged. Reading the colour matters more than reacting fast.
