Overview

A Tale of Tsushima in Izuhara, lady masako tale 2 of 9 — part of Masako tracking the people who slaughtered the Adachi clan.

The Headman belongs to Lady Masako’s questline: Masako tracking the people who slaughtered the Adachi clan. It is lady masako tale 2 of 9, set in Izuhara.

The ally questlines are the game’s best writing and they run in order, so this tale assumes the ones before it. Lady Masako’s arc rewards being followed as a sequence rather than picked at.

In the game’s own framing: Clan Adachi was betrayed by a conspiracy. Lady Masako lives only to destroy those responsible for her family’s murder.

This is tale 2 of 9 in Masako’s arc. The ally questlines run in order and assume the ones before them, so they reward being followed as a sequence rather than picked at.

Full walkthroughSpoilers

  1. 01
Meet Masako at the Golden Temple

Fast travel there; she is waiting.

  2. 02
    Follow Masako

Out of the temple and onto the road.

  3. 03
    Search for Hachi

Head downhill along the path lined with shrine gates.

  4. 04
    Tail Hachi’s cart

Follow without being seen, using the pampas grass and the higher ground. Crouch into the grass and let the patrol pattern settle before you move; the grass breaks line of sight entirely rather than just slowing detection.

  5. 05
    Follow Masako

Hide behind the tree trunk when Hachi meets the horsemen. Whistle the horse rather than walking back to it, and remember a charge is itself an opening move against a loose group.

  6. 06
    Tail the men on horseback

Shadow the riders using the trees and vegetation, and keep your distance. Whistle the horse rather than walking back to it, and remember a charge is itself an opening move against a loose group.

  7. 07
    Speak with Masako

She is behind a rock near where the horsemen stopped. Whistle the horse rather than walking back to it, and remember a charge is itself an opening move against a loose group.

  8. 08
    Search for Sadao

Mongol swordsmen ambush you on the way. Stone Stance handles the swordsmen; its heavy attacks do extra stagger damage and break their guard.

TipStone breaks swordsmen, who make up most of every Mongol group.

  9. 09
    Speak with Masako

    Near Sadao’s home.

  10. 10
    Speak with Hina

    Sadao’s wife closes the tale.

Enemies in this tale, and how to fight them

Strengths

  • Swordsmen — Stone Stance, whose heavy attacks do extra stagger damage to sword-wielders and break their guard. Swordsmen are the backbone of nearly every Mongol group, so Stone is the stance you will spend the most time in. Parry timing matters more here than anywhere else: blue attacks can be parried, red ones cannot and have to be dodged.

Rewards

  • Minor Legend Increase
A smaller step toward the next Legend rank — the size a side tale, a liberated settlement or a cleared encounter gives.
  • Minor Utility Charm
A silver charm. Minor charms are weaker than major ones and go in the minor slots — you start with two major slots and unlock up to four minor ones by honouring Inari Shrines, for six equipped at once.
  • +2 Silk
Upgrade material. Silk, linen and leather are what armourers and swordsmiths charge to improve your gear.
