Overview
Jin comes to deliver news of a death. Masako has already worked out that her whole family is gone, and is several steps ahead of him on what to do about it.
The mission introduces the Adachi clan's head as a fully formed warrior who requires no training and no rescuing. Her husband fell at Komoda Beach with the rest of the island's samurai, and the wider slaughter of her family — which was not the Mongols' doing — becomes the thread of her side questline.
Completing it rewards the Samurai Clan Armor, the defensive set: it reduces incoming damage, raises health, and converts damage taken into 15–30% Resolve. That last perk makes it the early-game answer to fights you cannot avoid.
In the game’s own framing: Clan Adachi were warriors of great renown. Jin investigates what happened to them and finds they were betrayed by their own people, not killed by the invaders.
This is tale 1 of 9 in Masako’s arc. The ally questlines run in order and assume the ones before them, so they reward being followed as a sequence rather than picked at.

Full walkthrough
- 01Travel to the Adachi estate
Follow the waypoint to the apparently abandoned estate.
- 02Search the main house
Two interactive items confirm a battle was fought here.
- 03Search the guest house
Assassins are waiting inside.
- 04Defeat the assassins
Clear every attacker from the guest house.
- 05Search the assassins
The bodies suggest survivors left on horseback. Whistle the horse rather than walking back to it, and remember a charge is itself an opening move against a loose group.
- 06Search the stables
Empty, no horses — but there are footprints leading away. Whistle the horse rather than walking back to it, and remember a charge is itself an opening move against a loose group.
- 07Follow the footprints
The trail appears and disappears and changes direction as it runs downhill.
- 08Investigate the fallen horse
A horse brought down by arrows. Examining it triggers the cinematic where Lady Masako appears and names the killers as Japanese conspirators. Whistle the horse rather than walking back to it, and remember a charge is itself an opening move against a loose group.
- 09Follow Masako to the cemetery
Travel with her to the burial ground.
- 10Honor the dead
Complete the ceremony.
- 11Follow Masako to the Golden Temple
She sends you to find a monk named Sogen, and to see the armorer.
- 12Look for Sogen
A monk named Junshin approaches inside the temple grounds and points you on.
- 13Speak with the sweeping monk
Sogen is on the deck to the left of the village entrance, holding a broom. His answers are evasive.
- 14Speak with the armorer
Masako has left you the Samurai Clan Armor.
- 15Speak with Lady Masako
She is waiting outside the temple grounds.
- 16Follow Masako
To a rocky outcrop overlooking the ground below.
- 17Watch Sogen
He finishes a conversation with a couple below and hurries off. Masako goes after him at once.
- 18Trail Sogen
Follow at distance. He stops and looks back repeatedly — break line of sight behind pampas grass or rocks each time. He leads you to an old inn being used as a bandit hideout. Crouch into the grass and let the patrol pattern settle before you move; the grass breaks line of sight entirely rather than just slowing detection.
- 19Move to the left of the inn entrance
Take the waypoint position and prepare for the fight.
- 20Defeat the bandits
Open with a standoff alongside Masako and take as many as you can there. More keep coming — over a dozen in total. This is what the Samurai Clan Armor is for. Open with the standoff. Hold until the enemy actually commits rather than pressing early, and each won standoff kills outright — against unarmoured ronin it can gut a group before the fight starts.
- 21Confront Sogen
He is on the inn’s second floor. He gives up nothing under questioning.
- 22Search the inn
You find the list of conspirators, which is the real prize and the thread the next nine tales pull on.
- 23Speak with Lady Masako
A cinematic closes the tale.
Enemies in this tale, and how to fight them
Strengths
- Straw Hats / ronin — Japanese swordsmen rather than Mongols, and they fight like it — faster and more technical than the invaders, with less armour. Stone Stance still applies. Standoffs work well against them, and against unarmoured ronin a won standoff often kills outright.
Rewards
- Major Legend IncreaseA large step toward the next Legend rank. Legend gates your Ghost Weapon unlocks and your health and Resolve upgrades, so main and Mythic Tales are the fastest way to raise it.
- Samurai Clan ArmorA full armour set. Sets are builds rather than defence numbers — each one changes how you are meant to fight.
