Taka is useful to the Mongols, which is the only reason he is alive — and he knows it.

A blacksmith rather than a fighter, Taka is kept for his ability to work metal for an occupying army. Freeing him is the objective that binds Jin and Yuna together before either of them has any wider plan.

He is written as decent and frightened in roughly equal measure, and the game resists making him either a coward or a secret hero. His usefulness to Jin is practical: he repairs, he forges, he is the reason certain equipment exists at all.
